Genghis Khan Motorcycle Trail

13 - 20 JUNE 2017 only USD $2195 (limited spaces left)

Genghis Khan was born in Dadal near to the Siberian border in the north east corner of Mongolia. This is a beautiful area of mountains, forest, lakes and wide rivers. It is also of immense historical significance and we will visit the places where Genghis Khan lived until he became leader of his people and moved his capital to Kharkhorin in Central Mongolia.

TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION !

Please note that nowadays there are a few competitor motorcycle companies offering the same or similar tours. Some have copied our "Genghis Khan Motorcycle Trail" and website content, given it a new name and advertised it as their own tour, at a cheaper price, perhaps without having tried and tested the route.

Genghis Statue
Genghis Statue Highlights

This amazing silver statue of Genghis Khan on a horse is the biggest horse statue in the world. It is 40 meters tall and can be seen from more than 30km away, glinting in the sunshine. Visitors can take a lift to the top for a marvelous view of the Tuul river valley.

Blue Lake
Blue Lake Highlights

This small lake hidden in the mountains just north of Tsenkhermandal village, is the place where the young Temujin was crowned "Genghis Khan" in 1206. The lake is difficult to find and surrounded by muddy water-logged valleys on all sides.

Deluun Boldog
Deluun Boldog Highlights

Genghis Khaan was born in 1162 on a hill called Deluun Boldog near to the present day Dadal village. Not far away is "Gurvan Nuur", which means "Three Lakes" but actually two of them have dried up.

Onon River
Onon River Highlights

The Onon river arises on the northern slopes of the Khan Khentii mountain range and flows 808 km to join the Shilka River in the Russian Federation. the Onon river abounds in fish and wild birds.

Some riding on the first and last days of the trip are on a new black topped road, but for the rest of the tour we follow rough jeep tracks on packed mud or rock. The '1400km' ride from Ulaanbaatar to the small village of Dadal is an experience of wilderness and culture that would be hard to beat elsewhere. There may be some river crossings (depends on recent weather conditions), although we travel out of our way to find bridges to cross the big rivers. All nights on tour are spent in the wild, camping in tents.

Mongolia is a great place for a motorcycle tour, but it is only suitable for confident riders with off-road experience. The routes are too remote and the terrain too rough for beginners. In parts of the country where there are no facilities for tourists we camp in the wilderness.
